The meaning of second language acquisition:
·         Any language that is learned subsequent to the mother tongue. Thus it can refer to the learning of a third or fourth language.
·         As the way in which people learn a language other than their mother tongue, inside or out-side of a classroom.

·         Description of L2 acquisition
·         Explaining, identifying the external and internal factors that occur for why learners acquire an L2 in the way they do.eem to be better at it than others
·         Proceed and to explain this process and why some learners

External factors:
1.      The opportunities from the environment
2.      The facilitates (question from other is as an input)

Two case studies
Wes was a Japanese adult had opportunities to have a job abroad    : sometimes produce ungrammatical sentences
and the second two children in the preschool                                                :  Both of them used hints instead of direct request, and the need time to master what they should produce.

Issues in the explanation of L2 acquisition
Learners must engage in:
·         Item learning: when they learn the expression of :”Can I have a ….”
·         System learning: when they learn that “can” is followed by a variety of words

Why did Wes seem to learn some grammatical items than others?
1.      Because he follows a particular development pattern because their mental faculties are structured in such a way that this is the way they have to learn
2.      The important of external as opposed to internal factors

CHAPTER I
QUESTIONS:
1.      What are the main different factors that differ what happened to Wes and the two children?
2.      From the external and the internal factors, which is the most possible factor which can encourage learners in L2 acquisition?
